Frequently asked questions

The short answers. If yours is missing, get in touch from the Contact page.

Privacy

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Every PDF tool on PDF100 reads your file with JavaScript inside the browser tab you have open, processes it on your device and saves the result straight back to your disk. There is no upload step and no copy of your document on our servers.

Are there any exceptions?

One. The OCR tools download language recognition data (not your file) from a public CDN the first time you use them. Your document still never leaves your device. Separately, if ads are enabled, Google loads ad scripts on the page. Those scripts cannot read the files you open.

How can I check this myself?

Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and run a tool. You will see no request carrying your document. Or load a tool page, turn off Wi-Fi, and keep working: most tools run fully offline once the page has loaded.

Do you use cookies?

PDF100 itself needs none. If advertising is enabled, Google may set cookies for ads, and visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are asked for consent first. You can change your choice any time from the footer. Details are in the Cookie Policy.

Using the tools

Is PDF100 really free?

Yes. All 100 tools are free with no daily limit, no watermark and no account. The site is supported by ads.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no artificial limit. The practical ceiling is your device's memory: a laptop handles files of several hundred megabytes, while an older phone may struggle with very large scans.

Which browsers are supported?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile.

Why does my converted Word document look different?

PDF stores positioned text, not paragraphs. Converting back to an editable document means reconstructing the structure, which works well for text-heavy files but simplifies complex layouts. Scanned PDFs need OCR first.

Does redaction really remove the text?

Yes. Redact PDF rebuilds every page that contains a match as an image with the black boxes burned in, so the original text layer is gone. It also deletes comments and form fields containing the text and strips metadata, bookmarks and attachments. Copying, searching or extracting text from the output will not reveal it. Redacted pages are no longer selectable text.

Can I open password-protected PDFs?

If you know the password, use Unlock PDF to remove it. PDF100 cannot and will not break passwords you do not have.
