How to watermark a PDF (and what a watermark can and cannot do)

Add "Draft", "Confidential" or your logo to every page. Plus why a watermark deters casual copying but is not a security control.

Watermarks signal status or ownership at a glance: a draft that should not be circulated, a sample, or a document from your company.

Text watermarks

Add Text Watermark places words such as DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL across each page. Control the size, angle, color and opacity. Around 15 to 25 percent opacity keeps the content underneath readable.

Logo watermarks

Add Image Watermark uses a picture instead, usually a logo. A PNG with a transparent background looks far better than a JPG with a white box around it.

Stamps

For a single mark such as APPROVED or PAID in a corner rather than across the page, use Add Stamp.
